Dixie Speedway in Woodstock and its sister track Rome Speedway in Rome both are set to close their seasons this weekend with two of their signature events, each sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
On Saturday, Dixie will host the Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout, and Sunday the circuit moves to Rome for the Rome Showdown. Both races are 50 lappers with the winner earning $10,000.
Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., is the series points leader, but he’s facing some of the nation’s best dirt racers, including two local drivers who compete with the rival World of Outlaws series.
Clint Smith of Senoia and Shane Clanton of Zebulon will take advantage of an off weekend for their regular tour to compete at two of their home tracks.
Clanton come to Dixie fresh off a victory at East Alabama Motor Speedway on Sunday, and Smith has had some of the best runs of his long career at Rome.
Also among the expected entries are some of Dixie’s regular weekly competitors such as Donald McIntosh, Jason Croft, Jake Knowles and Michael Page.
Both events also include races for local divisions, including Econo Bomber, Pony Stock, Limited Late Model, Crate Late Model and Cruisers.
