Atlanta United will participate in the Leagues Cup but not the U.S. Open Cup, according to MLS on Tuesday.

Each of the clubs that will participate in the Leagues Cup qualified for last season’s MLS playoffs. Vancouver will be replaced by San Diego because the Whitecaps already are supposed to compete in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Canadian Championship.

Atlanta United won the U.S. Open Cup in 2019. It is the oldest soccer tournament in the U.S. The Leagues Cup began two years ago as a joint venture between MLS and LIGA MX. Atlanta United didn’t advance out of the group stage in either year.
