Atlanta United on Friday announced it has signed defender Edgar Castillo, who has been training with the team for the past several days.

Castillo, 33, typically plays as a left fullback or wingback and is one of two players to receive caps from Mexico and the United States. He has 18 caps with the U.S. and four for El Tri.

He most recently played for New England in 2019, which declined the option on his contract for this season, and Colorado in 2018 after years of playing in LIGA MX. He made 48 appearances with three goals and 10 assists in MLS.

Castillo played for many teams in Mexico, including Santos Laguna, Tijuana, Club America and Tigres, twice winning titles.

Castillo is expected to provide depth on the left, where 19-year-old George Bello is the only returner at left fullback or wingback. Brooks Lennon, who is right-footed, can also play on the left.
