Because it will play some of the home games during its inaugural season at Bobby Dodd Stadium instead of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United announced on Wednesday several steps it is taking to help satisfy its supporters who may not be pleased with the temporary move.
The Major League Soccer expansion club, which will begin play in 2017, has worked with Ticketmaster so that seat selections made at Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be in a similar viewing spot at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The home section will be in the north end of the stadium.
Atlanta United is expected to play its home games in Bobby Dodd from the time the season opens in March until possibly late July. It will move into $1.5 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium when construction is complete.
Season-ticket holders will receive a personalized credit to reflect the difference in viewing a game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Information on that credit will be emailed to each season-ticket holder and is expected to be sent today.
Additionally, all season ticket purchasers are going to receive a $20 merchandise credit per ticket.
They will also receive two bonus single-game tickets per season ticket purchased. The bonus tickets can be used for a game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It’s not known in what section of the stadium the bonus tickets will be made for use. Details will be made available when the league schedule is announced, which is expected to be in January.
These benefits will also be extended to potential season-ticket purchasers.
When the Bobby Dodd Stadium announcement was made last month, Atlanta United executives said they were already discussing ways they were going to try to work with supporters to make the stadium change a better experience.
