Atlanta United announced late Tuesday that it has sold out Wednesday’s game against New England at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
It is the 11th consecutive sellouts for the MLS expansion team. Atlanta United (11-8-6) is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 39 points with nine games remaining. The top six teams advance to the playoffs. A sellout at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with the upper deck curtained off, is 42,500.
Atlanta United defeated Dallas 3-0 on Sunday in the first game in the $1.5 billion stadium. It also leads the league in attendance this season with an average of more than 46,000. Atlanta United is 7-2-1 at home this season.
The team will try to set an MLS record for attendance on Saturday when it hosts Orlando City by opening the upper deck. The game hasn’t been announced as a sellout. The record of 69,255 was set on April 13, 1996 in a game between the L.A. Galaxy and N.Y./N.J. MetroStars.
