Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino, who was quite funny during last week's press conference , was at it again on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's game at Vancouver.
Martino was suspended from last week’s 3-1 win against NYCFC after an incident in the previous week’s 4-1 win against Houston. Martino watched the NYCFC game from a suite at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Asked what he learned from that new vantage point, Martino said, “That I can’t get kicked out again. I’ve suffered enough.”
Martino is kind of superstitious. During the team's recent three-game unbeaten streak, Martino has made sure that the translator has stood to his left during each of his weekly press conferences. (The translator may have been on his right when the team won just once in six games. I can't remember and it's not something I would notice.)
On Wednesday, Martino also made sure that a correspondent for DirtySouthSoccer.com stood in the same spot where he was last week. It required the correspondent to move from one side to the other.
So, with that in mind, Martino was asked if, because the team won, he would watch this week’s game from a suite at BC Place.
“The team didn’t play bad, so I may stay up there,” he said.
