Atlanta United’s Martinez called up by Venezuela

Atlanta United record-setting striker Josef Martinez was called up by the Venezuelan national team on Monday.

Martinez, who holds the MLS single-season goal-scoring record (30), will return to Atlanta United following Friday’s game against Basque Country. Martinez has 43 appearances for Venezuela.

Martinez, 25, and Atlanta United lead New York Red Bulls by one point in the race for the Supporters’ Shield with two games remaining. Atlanta United will host Chicago on Oct. 21.
