Miguel Almiron was my choice for Atlanta United’s man of the match following its 3-1 win over Columbus on Saturday at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium:
MIGUEL ALMIRON
Attacking midfielder
The Paraguayan scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on a run that started near midfield and ended with a left-footed shot into the lower right corner in the second half to give his team a 2-1 lead. The shot wasn’t hit particularly hard, but was placed perfectly.
Almiron admitted he was lucky to score, saying he wasn’t trying to hit it as well as it turned out.
He had three shots, and won his third guitar for being named the team’s man of the match. The guitar was hand-painted in Atlanta United’s road colors of gray and red.
Teammate Hector Villalba, who also scored a goal, joked that he didn’t like the voting. He has said he wants to win one of the guitars.
