University of Tennessee track star Christian Coleman set the world record Sunday in the 60 meters at the USATF Indoor Championship Albuquerque, N.M.

With the time of 6.34 seconds, the 21-year-old Coleman, a graduate of Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayetteville, Ga., broke the record of 6.39 seconds previously set by Maurice Greene two decades ago.

Coleman ran the 60 meters in 6.37 seconds in January in a meet at Clemson, but the run was not recorded as the world record because the starting blocks did not have the electronic false start mechanism.

Coleman’s next appearance will be with Team USA in the IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, England, on March 1-4.
