In the Hawks’ game vs. the Suns in Phoenix Tuesday night, John Collins was replaced late in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game. He was diagnosed with a left ankle sprain.

After the loss, interim coach Nate McMillan said Collins had stepped on someone’s foot (meaning he had come down wrong on that ankle), and had tried to play through it for four or five minutes before needing to come out of the game.

“It was pretty sore and I saw him grimacing out there, so we got a sub for him and was told at halftime that he wasn’t able to come back,” McMillan said.

Before departing, Collins had nine points, four rebounds and three assists in about 15 minutes.
