Falcons work out five veterans, including Jordan Matthews

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Falcons worked out five veteran free agents Tuesday, according to the NFL’s transaction report.

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews, safety Maurice Smith, tight end Daniel Helm, linebacker Josh Watson and safety Will Sunderland worked out for the team.

Matthews, 29, was a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2014 out of Vanderbilt. He has played in 75 NFL games and made 46 starts. He has caught 274 of 422 targets (64.9 catch percentage) for 3,288 yards and 22 touchdowns. He played in two games for San Francisco last season.

Smith, 26, played at Georgia. He’s played in 15 NFL games and has made one start during stints with the Dolphins (2017-2018) and Washington (2019).

Helm, 26, played at Duke. He played in five games with the 49ers last season.

Watson, 25, played at Colorado State. He was with the Broncos in 2019 and 2020 and played in 17 games.

Sunderland, 25, played at Troy. He has been with the Seahawks and the Colts.
