It’s one of the most highly anticipated college football games of recent memory and nearly two months before it even kicks off, it’s sold out.
This year's Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida State Seminoles at Atlanta's new Mercedes-Benz Stadium officially sold out of tickets made available through the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game ticket offices.
Numerous preseason polls show various ranking combinations with both teams receiving No. 1 rankings and neither team being ranked lower than No. 4. The game could match the two highest-ranked teams to ever play on opening weekend in the nearly 150 years of college football.
“We’re calling this game the GOAT, the Greatest Opener of All Time, because of the projected rankings, the dominance of these two programs and the fact that this is the toughest ticket I have seen in my 20 years in college football,” Gary Stokan, CEO and president of Peach Bowl Inc., said in a press release.
The tickets for this marquee matchup were the second most expensive tickets to a college football game this season behind only Georgia vs. Notre Dame. Fans can still buy tickets through sites like StubHub and Vivid Seats. However, due to the high demand to see this could-be-legendary contest, the nosebleed seats are starting at $450.
The Florida State-Alabama Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game will kick off at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, in Atlanta and be nationally televised on ABC. The teams have met four times dating back to 1965, with the most recent meeting in 2007 resulting in a 21-14 Seminole win.
