The AJC Peachtree Road Race is underway with the start of the inaugural Peachtree Cup.

The four teams, composed of three men and three women each, started from Lenox Square at 7:20 a.m.. The 6.2-mile race will end at Piedmont Park. The team with the lowest cumulative time in the 6.2-mile race from Lenox Square to Piedmont Park was declared the winner.

Team USA was composed of captain Shalane Flanagan, Janet Bawcom, Rachel Ward, 2014 Peachtree winner Christo Landry, Bobby Curtis and Tyler Pennel.

Team Africa was captained by 2010 Peachtree winner Gebre Gebremariam and included South Africa’s Lusapho April, Kenya’s Carolina Kilel, Daniel Salel and Valentine Kipet, and Ethiopia’s Buze Diriba.

Team Europe was captained by Italy’s Daniele Meucci and included Russia’s Elena Nagovitsyna and Stepan Kiselev, France’s El Hassane Ben Lkhainouch and Christelle Daunay and Great Britain’s Alyson Dixon.

Team Asia was captained by Japan’s Yusuke Hasegawa and included five of his countrymen: Yuichiro Ogawa, Yusuke Mita, Yuika Mori, Shiho Takechi and Haruna Takada.
