About 2,500 young runners are expected to run to the Peachtree Junior Saturday, May 13, at Piedmont Park.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior features three distances: 3K (ages 7-14), 1/2K (ages 5-9) and 50m Dash (ages 6 and younger). Events start at 8:30 a.m. in the park’s Active Oval.
All participants receive a medal and commemorative T-shirt.
Runners also can try out different disciplines in a kid-friendly decathlon. Activities include high jump, shot put and hurdles.
The Peachtree Junior Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most kids register for this year's Peachtree Junior. Winners will be announced Saturday.
The Peachtree Junior is organized by the Atlanta Track Club, which also organizes the AJC Peachtree Road Race. The 48th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race will take place Tuesday, July 4, 2017. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is capped at 60,000 participants, making it the world's largest 10K.
