Atlanta Track Club announced this month its scholarship competition for the 2017 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior.

Atlanta Track Club recently announced its scholarship competition for the 2017 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior. Three group scholarships will be awarded on behalf of Atlanta Track Club's Kilometer Kids youth running program. Additionally, the Club will make donations to school and nonprofit organizations that bring large groups in an effort to encourage fitness in children.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior, which allows children to experience the prestige and excitement of the AJC Peachtree Road Race, will be held on Saturday, May 13 at Piedmont Park.

The Peachtree Junior Challenge, now in its fourth year, will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most kids register for this year’s Peachtree Junior events. The scholarships are intended to fund the organization’s future physical activity programs. Participants must pre-register online and include the name of the school or youth running club to be eligible for the competition. The winners of the Peachtree Junior Challenge will be announced immediately following the event.

The 2017 Peachtree Junior Challenge scholarship amounts are:

  • 1st Place: $2,000 Scholarship
  • 2nd Place: $1,500 Scholarship
  • 3rd Place: $1,000 Scholarship

Atlanta Track Club will also make a donation to schools and nonprofits that have more than 50 children register for the event. The three organizations that earn scholarships will not be eligible for additional funds. The donation amounts are:

  • Groups of 50 or more: $250
  • Groups of 100 or more: $500

“The goal of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior and our Kilometer Kids youth running program is to get kids moving,” said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club’s executive director. “These scholarships are a way for us to support like-minded organizations that are working with us to inspire the next generation of runners and walkers.”

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Peachtree Junior offers three distances for kids to experience the excitement and prestige of the AJC Peachtree Road Race in a safe environment. Children can participate in the 3K (ages 7-14), 1/2K (ages 5-9) or 50m Dash (ages 6 and under).
