Georgia Tech heads to Pittsburgh, searching for a response to its worst loss of the season.

The Yellow Jackets play Pitt on Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium after a 49-27 loss to Boston College dropped them to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the ACC.

Tech must win four of its final five games to reach bowl eligibility for a fourth consecutive season.

Coach Brent Key called the loss to Boston College a “disaster” after the Jackets allowed 399 rushing yards, including 278 in the second half. The performance continued a season-long problem for a Tech defense allowing 210 rushing yards per game.

The Jackets have struggled to establish their own running game, too. Tech enters Saturday averaging 123 rushing yards per game, setting up a difficult matchup against one of the ACC’s best run defenses. Pitt is allowing 65 rushing yards per game and 2.2 yards per carry.

Pitt (5-3, 2-3) has problems of its own. The Panthers opened the season with five consecutive victories but have lost three straight, including a 52-23 loss at Miami last week.

Pitt’s offense is averaging 444.3 yards per game, including 290.8 through the air, which ranks 12th nationally. Receiver Cataurus Hicks has 284 yards receiving over the past two games and leads the Panthers with 649 yards and five touchdown catches this season.

Tech has also found production through the air. Jordan Allen has 24 catches for 304 yards over the past three games, while Dalen Penson has 174 receiving yards over the past two.

Saturday marks Tech’s first trip to Pittsburgh since 2022, when the Jackets beat then-No. 24 Pitt 26-21 in Key’s first game as interim coach.
