Braves replace Jim Jarvis with Brewer Hicklen

Veteran outfielder called up from Triple-A, where he led Gwinnett Stripes in HR (18) and RBIs (64).

The Braves made a roster move Monday, exchanging outfielder Brewer Hicklen for shortstop Jim Jarvis.

Hicklen had been added to the Braves’ roster for Sunday’s MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (both the Braves and Brewers were afforded one extra player for the unique game). Hicklen was then, technically, returned to Triple-A Gwinnett before being recalled Monday.

The 30-year-old has played in eight games this season for the Braves, hitting .368 in 19 at-bats and driving in three runs. Hicklen has played in 18 career MLB games over four seasons with the Royals, Brewers, Tigers and Braves, respectively.

At Gwinnett, Hicklen led the Stripes in home runs (18), RBIs (64) and OPS (.893) among players with more than 300 at-bats.

“Brings another bat that we can use, and speed,” Braves manager Walt Weiss said Sunday about Hicklen. “He’s done a nice job, so good to see him again.”

Jarvis, a rookie, was hitting .318 after July 18, but has been on a steady offensive decline since. He was hitting .079 in August with an on-base percentage of .146.

Starting 35 games at shortstop out of the 38 games he has appeared in, Jarvis had a fielding percentage of .953.
