A 71-year-old North Carolina man, who had been missing since May 2, was found dead in a rural area in southeast Georgia over the weekend.

Bryant Alexander Poole’s body was found in a remote area of Echols County, which is south of Valdosta, according to a release by the Asheville Police Department. APD and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, along with authorities in Echols County, are investigating the Asheville man’s cause of death.

Poole had reportedly last spoken with his family on May 2. The 71-year-old had been driving his blue 2012 Hyundai Tucson and traveling with his dog Piper, the Cavalier.

Last week, the N.C. Center for Missing Persons reported that Poole was possibly suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
