He's been called "the worlds saddest polar bear," but Pizza the polar bear will finally have the sun on his face.

Pizza lived in an aquarium inside a mall in China for most of his life, until recently, The Telegraph reported.

Animal activists said that he "suffered for selfies" when he showed what were called signs of mental distress after video of him acting listless in his enclosure went viral just months after the aquarium opened.

Members of the activist group Animals Asia said Pizza had nowhere to hide from people who would use his enclosure as a backdrop for photos. Visitors to the aquarium would bang on the windows and shout to get his attention. They said that the mall did not provide Pizza a natural habitat.

Animals Asia started a petition to force the closure of Grandview Aquarium. More than 856,000 signed to join the online movement.

Pizza recently was moved to where he was born, an unnamed park in North China and was reunited with his parents.

Mall officials said that the move is temporary while they renovate Pizza's enclosure, The Telegraph reported. But the Humane Society International and Capital Animal Welfare Association have both pushed to have Grandview make Pizza's new home permanent.
