A Perth, Australia, woman is making news after she delivered a baby boy that is bigger than a loaf of bread.
Breanna Sykes welcomed a 13-pound baby boy -- nearly twice the size of the average baby in Australia.
9News reported that Ziad Kadic was born to Sykes, 18, via C-section Saturday.
"It was a very big surprise," Sykes told PerthNow. "The doctor would not induce me (at first) but then measured me on the table and said he thought my baby would be about eight or nine pounds."
Sykes said she was having an anxiety attack, so she was put under anesthetic.
"They said he’s just not going to fit. If I try to push the baby, it could break my pelvis. So I had to get a Ccaesarean, unfortunately," Sykes said. "But he’s here safe and happy and that’s all that matters."
Ziad set a record for the hospital that may also be the record for Western Australia.
Sykes said her family is shocked and 15 doctors came to visit her when they found out how big her son is.
"The doctors said it could be genetics," she said about her son's size. "They have done all these tests and all the blood work, he’s perfectly healthy. He’s just so chunky, beautiful, very chubby, cuddly and sleepy."
For Mother's Day, Sykes said she might stay at home.
