The former host of the Fox music series “Pump It Up!”, created the page last month, because she is in the process of being evicted from her home, according to the description of the campaign.

“Standing in our own truth not the definitions or the expectations is powerful, and this is my TRUTH,” she wrote. “I am in the process of being evicted. This page was created as an emergency fund to stop the process and the subsequent legal fees.”

Despite her difficulties, she said she’s remaining positive.

“Even though I am facing extreme financial hardship I keep my head up. I know who I am, I know my worth and I know I'm not alone,” she continued. “Everyone is dealing with their own different struggles. Some of us less fortunate than others. It may sound cliche but things will turn around in your favor, this is the balance of life ups and downs, so stay strong, and count your blessings, not your problems.”

She later confirmed on Twitter the campaign was hers, and thanked her supporters for their messages and donations.

Although she set a goal of $5,000, she had raised more than $20,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

Barnes gained popularity in the late 1980s as a member of the female rap duo Body & Soul. She also became host of the popular radio music program “Pump it Up!” during that time.

In 1991, she accused hip-hop artist and producer Dr. Dre of attacking her, because he was unhappy with a “Pump It Up!” segment. She filed a civil suit against the rapper, who plead no contest, and the lawsuit was settled out of court.
