How do you draw an “X”?

Twitter user @SMASEY tweeted a seemingly innocuous image that inspired a lot of debate online.

"Which way do you draw an X?" she tweeted. "Colored line being the first stroke."

Twitter users had strong opinions to this question.

And then there were the joke answers.

“General consensus is that Americans do 7 & 8 while UK does 5 & 6. Probably how we were taught. Not sure about other countries,” she tweeted later.
