An orca that got stuck in rocks at low tide was kept alive by a team of volunteers and scientists until the whale was able to free itself.

The CBC reports that the team kept the whale alive for eight hours by keeping her cool with water, blankets and sheets.

The volunteers said the whale seemed stressed at first and cried often, but calmed down after they began to provide aid.

As the tide began to rise, the whale started moving to free itself, and was successful after about 45 minutes.

Once freed, the orca quickly reunited with her pod.
