A high-speed train has derailed in France.

According to an official government statement, at least 7 people have been killed and 10 critically injured. The BBC reports that 49 people were on board the train.

The train was performing a test run at the time of the accident. The BBC reports that excessive speed caused the crash.

According to the BBC, a train car was partially submerged after landing in a canal adjacent to the tracks.

Rescue workers are on the scene.

The new train line is set to open next year.

The accident happened just hours after a series of terrorist attacks killed 100 in Paris. Terrorism is not suspected in the train derailment.
