That's one way to "earn" a paycheck.

A plant worker at a wastewater treatment plant in Spain was still bringing in his paycheck, despite not actually being at work for at least six years, the BBC reported.

Joaquin Garcia was paid nearly $42,000 a year before taxes to supervise a wastewater treatment plant.

So how could it have happened?

The water company thought the local municipality was keeping tabs on Garcia. The local municipality thought the water company was in charge of Garcia.

The only way they found out about Garcia's not reporting was when the deputy mayor was scheduled to give Garcia a plaque for 20 years of service, the BBC reported.

Garcia said he did go to the office, but not for his entire working day.

He has been fined $30,000 for not reporting to work. He has since retired.
