According to the Daily Mail, the British actress has landed the principle role for the 25th edition of the spy franchise, making her the first black woman — and the first woman, period — to be named the lead in the series.
“She’s not the new Bond, but a new character who takes over his secret agent number after he leaves MI6,” the publication reported.
Want to learn more about her? Here are five things you should know about the 31-year-old.
She was born in London
The actress, who is of Jamaican descent, was born on November 27, 1987, in Hammersmith, London. She became interested in the arts at a young age and attended ArtsEd Drama School in London, where she graduated in 2010, Newsweek reported.
She has appeared on the small and big screen
She has been in many British and American films and TV shows, including "Fast Girls," "Death in Paradise" and "Crims."
In 2016, she was cast as the leading character in the Shonda Rhimes-produced series, "Still Star-Crossed." The show was canceled after one season.
The actress currently stars in “Bulletproof,” which follows two cops as they chase down criminals. Lynch plays the wife one of the officers.
She auditioned for “Black Panther” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming”
According to BET, she was a serious contender for "Black Panther" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming," but things reportedly did not pan out.
She still managed to land a role in another Marvel flick
Earlier this year, Lynch starred in “Captain Marvel.” She played Maria Rambeau, the fighter pilot best friend of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.
"I've never been in a superhero movie before; I just don't know what style of acting you need to adopt," Lynch said in a March 2019 Vanity Fair article. "I just felt like I was just doing what I usually do, and approaching it in a way that I would approach theater or a series or a radio play."
She loves posting footage from the set of the upcoming 007 film
If you look at Lynch’s Instagram, you’ll see behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the upcoming 007 movie. Although many details about the action flick have not been disclosed, there’s some fun footage on her page.
