A Saudia Arabian cleric named Sheikh Mohammed Saleh al-Munajjid has issued a fatwa banning the making of snowmen, claiming it is forbidden according to  Sunni Islam teachings.

After a rare snowstorm on the Arabian Peninsula, children began building snowmen sparking the issue of the fatwa.

The fatwa states, "It is not permitted to make a statue out of snow, even by way of play and fun."  Sheikh Munajjid stated that building a snowman was building an image of a human, which is strictly forbidden.

According to one news report, while some supported the cleric, saying building snowmen was an infidel act, others questioned the ruling.
