Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun committed suicide on Thursday, April 30, 1945, in their bunker located under the Reich Chancellery in Berlin. As the Soviet Unions' Red Army advanced into Berlin, it is believed that Hitler shot himself after taking cyanide with his new wife. In accordance with his prior instructions, their bodies were taken to the Reich Chancellery garden and burned. Nazi Germany's surrender and VE Day followed a week later.
