Passengers aboard a plane in Somalia experienced frightening moments after an explosion, believed to have been caused by a bomb, ripped open a hole in the fuselage.
A passenger on board Daallo Airlines flight D3159 from Mogadishu to Djibouti captured the tense scene on board. One can hear the air rushing into the plane from the large hole, located near the right wing. Passengers appear anxious but remain seated, with most wearing their oxygen masks.
According to AirLive.net, passengers were moved away from the gaping hole to the back of the plane.
The airlines confirmed to Reuters that a male passenger is deceased after it is believed he was sucked out of the plane during the incident.
All remaining passengers were removed from the plane safely once it returned to the airport in Mogadishu.
Forbes reported that Ibrahim Yassin, the CEO of the Somalia-based Daallo Airlines confirmed that "a bang, a sort of explosion" ripped a hole into the plane. He said the incident took place approximately 15 minutes after takeoff.
A preliminary investigation has determined that a bomb blew a hole in a jetliner, according to a Somali official. The Associated Press reports that six people have been arrested in connection with the blast.
