A 15-year-old boy has died after an accident involving weights at a gym in Brisbane, Australia last week.

Ben Shaw was bench pressing over 200 pounds when a barbell fell on his throat, the BBC reported.

It’s unclear how long the teenager was trapped under the weight before others noticed he was struggling.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he was placed on life support, but died Saturday afternoon, according to the BBC.

His family released a statement to ABC Australia News:
"Ben passed away yesterday afternoon with his family and friends around him. Ben was able to leave a legacy and donate his organs and tissue, giving life to others."

Australian authorities have launched an investigation into the accident and Shaw's death.
