Iran has accused Saudi Arabia of attacking its embassy in Yemen’s capitol city, according to multiple media reports.
Late on Wednesday night, dozens of airstrikes hit Yemen’s capitol, Sana’a, where a Saudi-led coalition is fighting Shiite rebels called Houthis on behalf of Yemen’s government.
"Saudi Arabia is responsible for the damage to the embassy building and the injury to some of its staff," foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari told state media, according to The Guardian.
A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen told Reuters the coalition will investigate the claim.
The accusation marked the latest conflict between the two countries, which have had surrounding nations on edge. Relations soured in the wake of Saudi Arabia’s decision to execute 47 prisoners on Jan. 2, including popular Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
