The worker who died in a concrete plant accident in Cobb County on Monday has been identified.

The Cobb medical examiner’s office said the victim is Norberto Galicia Romero, 49, of Houston.

Cobb fire spokesman Dan Dupree said Romero’s body was found around 9 p.m. Monday at the Thomas Concrete Woodstock plant on Canton Road in Marietta.

A 911 call around 3 p.m. from the business said a man was trapped inside a concrete silo. Two workers had been doing repairs inside the silo when one slipped and fell, fire crews told Channel 2 Action News. He was buried under the gravel.

Cobb fire and emergency services personnel worked through the night to get to him.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
