A Cherokee County man has five million reasons to smile these days.

John Carrico, of Woodstock, bought a scratch-off ticket at Publix at 3120 Mathis Airport Parkway in Suwanee to play Georgia Lottery’s 20th Anniversary Extravaganza, lottery officials said Tuesday.

And Carrico won the top $5 million prize.

Carrico claimed his prize Friday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

He was not contacted Tuesday because he was hopefully enjoying his windfall.

Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has grown to $119 million for Wednesday’s drawing.

The jackpot has grown since Feb. 14 and has rolled seven times.
