A 55-year-old woman was killed in a wreck Wednesday morning after hitting a truck head-on on Austell Road, according to Cobb County police.

The crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. at the intersection with Reed Drive, south of Marietta, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said. Several drivers called 911 to report the crash.

According to witnesses and information from the crash scene, the driver of a red 2001 Ford Focus station wagon had turned right from Floyd Road onto northbound Austell Road when she drove across the raised concrete center median, Pierce said. The Focus drove into the path of a yellow 2006 Ford E-350 van, which was southbound on Austell Road.

Yolanda Mendoza-Juarez, of Smyrna, died at the scene of the wreck, which sent some wreckage into a nearby business.

The driver of the Ford E-350 van was identified Wednesday afternoon as La-Shana Smith, 42, of Marietta, Pierce said. Smith declined treatment at the scene, but later was treated at WellStar Kennestone Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No charges are expected to be filed in the wreck, which temporarily closed a portion of Austell Road. All lanes were re-opened around 12:30 p.m.

While investigators were at the scene of the fatal crash, three other vehicles were involved in a second, minor crash.
