A woman and two children who reportedly were kidnapped Friday night from southeast Atlanta have been found safe after being dropped off at Atlanta shopping mall west of downtown, police said.

The victims were found, apparently uninjured, around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mall West End, police said.

The three were reported abducted from the area of Reed and Bass streets. The incident began around 7 p.m. Friday when a man was shot during an attempted carjacking at that location, police spokesman John Chafee said.

Chafee said the preliminary investigation indicated someone attempted to carjack a male driver of a black SUV. The victim was able to flee the scene in his SUV. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Shortly after the attempted carjacking, Chafee said, a woman drove up to the scene with her two children and “the suspect or suspects then got into the vehicle with her and the children and made her drive from the location.”
