Numerous road projects are planned on metro Atlanta interstates this weekend, but there’s a good chance that some of the lane closures could be postponed by rain.

Here’s what you need to know about the planned closures:

Sign work on I-285 and I-75, bridge repairs on I-20

Work on sign structures will shut down two westbound lanes of I-285 between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road and one eastbound lane between New Northside Drive and Lavista Road, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

More sign work will close two northbound lanes of I-275 between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hollowell Parkway and one southbound lane from I-20 to Cascade Road. Those closures are set to start at 9 p.m. Friday and continue through 5 a.m. Monday.

The last of the planned sign structure work will shut down one lane of I-75 in each direction between Delk Road and the South Marietta Parkway from 7:30 a.m. Saturday until 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Two westbound lanes of I-20 from the Downtown Connector to Lee Street will be closed all weekend for bridge joint repairs.

Chance of a wintry mix Friday night and rain Saturday and Sunday

A winter storm warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday for Bartow, Cherokee and Forsyth counties, as well as areas of the state north of those counties, while the rest of Georgia north of I-20 is under a winter weather advisory from 8 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the precipitation should transition to all rain by early Saturday afternoon, adding that there’s a 70 percent chance of rain both Saturday and Sunday.

Weekend highs will be in the 50s, with lows in the upper 20s early Saturday and upper 40s Sunday morning.

Fast bikes and fancy hair-do’s

The Monster Energy Supercross makes the first of two weekend stops at the Georgia Dome Saturday night. The motorcycles return to the Dome next Saturday for the second half of the competition.

Meanwhile, next door at the Georgia World Congress Center, the annual Bronner Bros. International Beauty Show will be held Saturday through Monday.

The Hawks take on Toronto Friday night at Philips Arena, which hosts a concert by Charlie Wilson on Saturday night.
