Westbound I-20 in Douglas County has reopened following a fatal predawn wreck that shut down all lanes for nearly five hours, authorities said.

The crash, which happened before 5 a.m. on I-20 westbound past the Ga. 5 exit, involved a tractor-trailer and a smaller vehicle, the Georgia Department of Transportation said.

Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel told Channel 2 Action News that a car ran into the back of the truck, which Douglasville police said was stopped on the shoulder of the interstate.

The car’s passenger was killed, and the driver was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to Daniel, who added that both the driver and passenger were adults. Their identities were not immediately available.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, Daniel said.

The westbound lanes of the interstate were reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
