If your weekend travel plans include I-20, listen up: Roadwork resumes on three stretches of the interstate, and the Georgia Department of Transportation warns that each has the potential to “significantly impact traffic.” Here’s what you need to know to avoid weekend construction jams:

I-20 woes: In Rockdale and Newton counties, two westbound lanes will be closed from Covington to Conyers, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

A separate bridge construction project at the Alcovy River east of Covington has one eastbound lane closed “until further notice,” according to GDOT.

In Douglas County, two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed nightly between Ga. 5 and Liberty Road.

Restriping of I-20 westbound exit and entrance ramps between Flat Shoals Road and the Downtown Connector will take place each night this weekend. “There will be no restriping activities on I-20 itself so as not to interfere with traffic to and from the Atlanta Braves baseball games at Turner Field,” said GDOT spokesman David Spear.

Other weekend construction issues: Spear said there will be intermittent traffic pacing in both directions along I-285 near Atlanta Road in Cobb County from 6 a.m. until noon Saturday as workers prepare for a reconstruction of that interchange.

Nightly work on various sign construction projects north of that area will close two lanes of I-285 in each direction between New Northside Drive and I-75. Three eastbound lanes of I-285 will be closed nightly between Riverside Drive and the Glenridge Connector.

Scattered showers could hamper roadwork: Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said there's a 40 percent chance of rain Friday, diminishing to 30 percent Saturday and 20 percent Sunday.

Afternoon highs will be in the low 80s Friday and mid-80s Saturday and Sunday, with morning lows in the mid- to upper 60s.

Weekend events: The Braves play the Angels nightly through Monday at Turner Field.

Other events include Friday’s Atlanta Dream-Minnesota Lynx game at Philips Arena, Saturday’s Back to the Chattahoochee River Race and Festival at Riverside Park in Roswell and the Cobb NAACP’s Juneteenth Celebration at Glover Park in Marietta. The Juneteenth Celebration will be held all weekend.
