Construction crews plan to shut down lanes on several metro Atlanta interstates this weekend, but Mother Nature could have other plans.

“There is a strong possibility of rain this weekend,” said Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman David Spear. “Such weather could temporarily halt work or cause it to be postponed completely. Already, two jobs – I-20 resurfacing in Rockdale and Newton counties and concrete replacement on the west side of I-285 – have been canceled due to the forecast.”

What's still planned? Work on sign structures on the top-end Perimeter will block the left lanes in each direction between Powers Ferry Road and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Downtown, overnight re-striping is planned on I-20 exit ramps to Flat Shoals Road, Glenwood Avenue, Capitol Avenue and Windsor Street.

In Douglas County, lanes of I-20 in both directions between Ga. 5 and Liberty Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. For updated traffic reports all weekend, go to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

What are the rain chances? Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting a 40 percent chance of rain Friday, climbing to 70 percent Saturday before dipping to 50 percent Sunday. The rainy pattern is expected to persist at least through the middle of next week.

Weekend temperatures will be several degrees cooler than normal, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Check the full weekend weather forecast and track changes.

What big events are scheduled this weekend? The Atlanta Braves play a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies, with first pitches scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Friday, 7:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday.

Spring Street will be shut down between 3rd and 4th streets through noon Sunday for an electronic dance music party. The "Kingdom Rave 15: Bashment Block Party & Street Fair" begins at 2 p.m. Friday and continues through 5 a.m. Sunday. Click here for a full listing of weekend events.
