North Georgia will get in on the sunshine early Wednesday before clouds build in and rain chances increase for the afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A 30% chance of an isolated shower is in the forecast. Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said while that is a low-end chance, it is not zero, and it is better to be prepared than get caught in a rainstorm unawares.

“It’s nothing that is going to washout your afternoon plans, but it could dampen them,” she said.

At least for the morning drive, roadways across metro Atlanta are dry. There are some areas of patchy fog affecting visibility, especially in the northeast Georgia mountains. Visibility had dropped to less than a mile around Blairsville at 6:30 a.m., according to Channel 2.

The region will heat up quickly. After a start in the low 70s, Atlanta is expected to reach the mid-80s by lunchtime on its way to a projected high of 88 degrees. Rain chances will also start to rise around the noon hour, Deon said.

“We do have the moisture in place, and as we go into the afternoon, we will start to notice those clouds building in, and even a shower or two popping up,” she said.

Most of the showers will be spotty, but Deon said brief, heavy downpours are possible. Thursday should see another low chance of showers before widespread rain returns to the forecast on Friday, according to Channel 2.

Things are looking up for the holiday weekend. Deon said Saturday could see an isolated shower or storm, but rain chances will be on the low side. It should not be enough to alter plans, she said.

“On Sunday, it looks even better,” Deon said. “That is the perfect timing to get those grills out and celebrate the Fourth, because we are going to see a lot of sunshine.”

Temperatures should start the day Sunday in the 60s before warming to a projected high of 86 degrees. Rain chances remain low Sunday at less than 10%, perfect for viewing fireworks displays, according to the latest forecast.

“Really we can’t ask for better weather than that,” Deon said.

Despite dry conditions on the roads, the morning drive is slow in spots Wednesday after a series of early crashes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

A left lane is closed on the I-285 outer loop at the ramp to I-75 North. Commuters should “expect a slow roll into the Cobb Cloverleaf,” the Traffic Center reported.

In Roswell, there are some delays on Ga. 92 after a garbage truck overturned at Grace Hill Road, according to the Traffic Center. The road is blocking between King and Crabapple roads.
