Rain is on the way, but the weekend won’t be a wash. The forecast for Mother’s Day should please moms all over town.
It’s springtime in Atlanta and that means plenty of outdoor festivals are planned for the weekend. But Sunday’s forecast will be better for being outdoors.
Showers will be sporadic Saturday morning before becoming more widespread for the afternoon, Channel 2 Action News Meteorologist Brad Nitz said. Thunderstorms are also possible Saturday afternoon.
Participants stayed dry in Saturday morning’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Atlantic Station.
Expect skies to clear Sunday, when it should be mostly sunny and reach 75 degrees, Nitz said.
A drier Sunday likely means many metro roadway projects will be underway, according to Georgia Department of Transportation. Affected interstates include I-285, I-85, I-20, and GA-400, so plan for delays when traveling.
Also, expect some road closures near outdoor festivals, such the Sweet Auburn Springfest, which draws thousands to the Sweet Auburn district Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Expect delays and street closures on Auburn Avenue, Edgewood Avenue, Piedmont Avenue, Courtland Street and other roads in the area.
