Atlanta police officials Wednesday released surveillance video that shows a vehicle that may have been involved in a drive-by shooting that left a 62-year-old man dead.
The video was taken minutes before the shooting, which occurred just after midnight Wednesday outside the JVC Grocery Store in the 1000 block of McDaniel Street, according to Atlanta police dispatchers.
Toward the end of the 12-second clip, someone can be seen walking inside a building moments after the vehicle passes out of view.
Officials are seeking information on the vehicle’s driver and anyone affiliated with the vehicle.
Investigators told Channel 2 Action News that there was a strong possibility that the victim, Obie Phillips, was not the intended target of the multiple gunshots.
Phillips’ sister, Patsy Brown, told Channel 2 that her brother was in the process of moving out of the neighborhood, kept to himself and was dealing with an illness.
“He had walked to the store and he leaned over to rest a while, because he has gout and arthritis real bad, and somebody drove by and just shot,” Brown told Channel 2.
Witnesses told police that a blue car drove up and the shots were fired out a passenger window.
Police were also reviewing surveillance video from the 24-hour store, but have not determined a motive for the slaying.
Anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Callers do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment.
