Several charges were filed against the woman accused of hitting a high school student getting off a school bus and leaving the scene, the Georgia State Patrol said early Tuesday.

Yung Lam, 46, of Maspeth, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Acura northbound on Bomar Road around 4:30 p.m. Monday when she allegedly attempted to pass a school bus, according to Franka Young, spokeswoman for the GSP. The school bus was stopped with its stop sign arm extended when Lam passed the bus, according to investigators.

“The Acura attempted to pass the school bus in a no-passing zone while students were crossing the road and struck a pedestrian with the front quarter panel and tire area of the vehicle,” Young said in an emailed statement.

A 17-year-old New Manchester High School student was struck as she crossed Springside Court after getting off the bus, Karen Stroud, spokeswoman for Douglas County schools, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The teen was identified early Tuesday as Destiny Wilson, the GSP said.

Witnesses told investigators the car stopped briefly after striking the student, but then left the scene.

Wilson was checked by paramedics called to the scene, Stroud said. The teen’s grandmother took her to the hospital for further evaluation, the GSP said. Wilson’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Troopers later located Lam and brought her back to the scene for questioning, the GSP said. She was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for school bus loading or unloading, passing in a no-passing zone, driver to exercise due care, and hit and run/leaving scene of an accident, Young said early Tuesday.
