A 21-year-old University of Georgia student was found dead in her dorm room Thursday night, according to campus police.

Shortly after 6 p.m., officers and paramedics were dispatched to Russell Hall on a medical call, UGA police said Thursday night. First aid was administered, but the woman could not be revived, UGA police said.

After her family was notified, the student was identified as Mikal Ghirmazghi, known as “Miki” to her friends.

Police and the Clarke County coroner were at the scene Thursday night, but there was no obvious cause of death. There were also no obvious signs of foul play, police said.

Ghirmazghi was a resident assistant in the co-ed dorm, where she was a welcoming face for freshmen, a classmate told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Carleen Porter, a sophomore, lived on Ghirmazghi’s hall during her freshman year.

“She was always smiling,” Porter said. “It could be 3 a.m, and if I saw her on the hall, she would be smiling and asking me how I was.”
