Two men were seriously injured after a boat crashed into the shore and some trees on Lake Allatoona on Saturday evening.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to an emergency call at 7:38 p.m. that a person was trapped inside a boat that was sinking after it crashed into a 15-foot-tall bank west of Little River Marina, according to DNR spokesman Sgt. Mike Barr.

DNR, Cherokee County Fire and Rescue and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash and found two badly injured men in the 18-foot boat, Barr said. Rescuers had to cut one man free from the driver’s side of the boat.

Barr said the boat’s throttle was found in the “full forward” position, meaning that the boat must have been at full power when it hit the bank.

The two injured men were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, but both are expected to live.

Barr told Channel 2 Action News that blood alcohol tests are still pending and that the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
