Robbers with guns swiped cash from two Family Dollar stores within two hours Friday night, but Atlanta police have not determined if the crimes are related.
Shortly before 8 p.m., a man entered the Family Dollar in the 2500 block of Bolton Road in northwest Atlanta and attempted to purchase a pack of gum, according to the incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. When the cashier opened the register, the suspect pulled out a silver handgun and said, “Give me the money,” the woman told police.
The man then walked around the corner and grabbed about $400 from the cash drawer before walking out of the store, according to police. The suspect was described as being a black man wearing a black jacket with a hood, blue jeans, a white T-shirt and white sneakers.
Surveillance cameras at the store captured the robbery and is being reviewed by investigators.
About two hours later and 13 miles away, a second Family Dollar was robbed in the 1100 block of Moreland Avenue in southeast Atlanta, according to police.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, two men entered the store and one waited outside, according to the police report. One of the suspects pointed a rifle at a customer and employee and another removes the cash drawer from the register, police said. The third man waited outside the store, where he fought with a man trying to run from the store, surveillance video shows.
Witnesses told police all three suspects were wearing black jackets with jeans.
