The identical twins accused of killing a former reporter and then encasing the body in concrete in their dad’s backyard will be returned to Florida to face charges, an assistant district attorney said Tuesday.
Christopher and William Cormier, most recently of Barrow County, were arrested Oct. 8 after a tip from Pensacola, Fla., police led investigators to a Winder home. There, investigators unearthed a concrete block containing human remains that appeared to have recently been buried in the backyard of the home, where the Cormiers had recently moved to live with their father.
An autopsy determined the remains were those of Sean Christopher Dugas, 30, who had been reported missing from Pensacola weeks before, police said. The Cormier twins were charged with murder and concealing a death and have remained in jail since their arrests.
Investigators have determined since the arrests that Dugas was likely killed in Florida, meaning the two suspects will face charges in that state.
“The Waiver of Extradition has been signed by each defendant so Florida will pick each defendant up and take him to Florida to answer charges there,” Deborah Wilbanks, chief assistant in the Barrow County District Attorney’s Office, said in an email. “The State of Georgia has now dismissed the murder charges here since those will be prosecuted in Florida.”
It was not immediately known if the Cormiers would also face charges in Georgia. Both remained in the Barrow County jail Wednesday afternoon.
