Gov. Nathan Deal on Wednesday announced a contribution of $10.5 million from the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts toward a project to reconstruct the interchange at Ga. 400 and I-285.

At the news conference, reporters asked pointed questions about the small amount compared with the $450 million price tag for the project.

But also Wednesday, the Atlanta Regional Commission voted to free up about $80 million in state bond money, which may also go toward the interchange. ARC has yet to vote on where to spend the money, but the state Department of Transportation's planning director has told ARC the interchange is a likely target.

The interchange project could be built in phases, but that would increase the cost.
