A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning when his bike collided with an SUV on Cobb Parkway, Cobb County police said.

Marco Malvaez, 25, of Kennesaw, was on his Honda motorcycle going south as the driver of a northbound Mercedes SUV turned left into his path, according to police. The two collided at Black Acre Trail near Acworth.

Malvaez was dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 17-year-old Rachel Tyre of Acworth, was not injured in the wreck, which remains under investigation.

Police have not said if Tyre will face charges.

The initial investigation shut down the southbound lanes for about two hours during the morning rush. The road reopened just before 10:15 a.m.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
