Traffic accidents in Georgia caused 14 deaths over the Labor Day weekend period, which ended at midnight Monday.
Four of this year’s deaths happened in Metro Atlanta – two in Roswell, one in Cobb County and another in DeKalb County. This year’s number of fatalities is one more than the 13 people killed during the same weekend last year.
Overall, there were 443 crashes that injured 226 people during the Labor Day weekend this year, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s website. Spokesman Gordy Wright said the agency’s efforts at higher visibility during busy holiday travel weekends have paid dividends.
“We’ve had Labor Day weekend fatalities as high as 22,” Wright said. “High visibility and enforcement are important.”
